How The Spin Trainer Works

The spin trainer is very simple but effective when used correctly. It allows any level of player, although specifically beginners to intermediates, to refine their strokes. You simply set the device up by connecting it to the end of the table, then adjusting the connecting shaft to place the ball at the correct height for any player. This is especially good to practice your forehand and backhand strokes continuously without the need of a practice partner or spending a lot of time picking balls back up. The spin trainer also allows players to understand the rotation of the ball through using spin. It can be a very useful aid to show that the more you brush the ball the more spin is generated, as well as where to contact on the ball to get the maximum amount of spin. By changing the angle you can also practice generating spin for your serves. The faster the ball rotates the more spin you have generated.

How Does it Improve Your Game

Using this device in your training could be a very good way to refine your shots and help you improve to become the best you can be. If used correctly, by practicing the correct techniques, it will become muscle memory meaning in games it will become more natural to play the correct shots leading to a more consistent playstyle. It emphasises the need to brush the ball to generate spin, it also helps players to get the correct timing and contact point on the bat. However, if you are not practicing the correct technique this could hinder your technique more as you will create muscle memory for a shot that is not correct. This means you will be less consistent and it may not help you to improve.

Although, if used correctly, the spin trainer can be an effective way to refine your shots it does not help you improve while having to move and play. While practicing on this device you will be stood still which does not emulate a match. It also does not emulate the different speed and spins an opponent/practice partner will do. Therefore, it does have its cons as it is not fully respective of a table tennis match.

Pricing – Is it Worth it?

Although £23 may seem expensive for what you get, the repetitive practice you will be able to utilise makes it worth the money. Especially when you are first starting out, you may need some mechanical guidance on how to perform the correct techniques. It is also much cheaper than purchasing a robot. If you are unable to purchase a robot but would still like some equipment to help you improve I would definitely recommend this product. Even if you are able to buy a robot, this device has its own unique benefits that a robot does not, so would also be worthwhile having.

To conclude, I would recommend this product to any new beginners who are just starting out, intermediate players to refine their strokes, and any coaches who may want equipment to help with their coaching sessions. You will most definitely get the use out of the product for the price you pay and will not need to buy another one after your first purchase.

  1. I was very interested to read your post about the table tennis spin trainer which seems a great resource available for a small price, which can allow you to improve your training and enhance your own skills. The review is very thorough and accurate and i learned a lot by reading about the spin trainer which I was not familiar with previously.

    1. I am glad this review was informative for you. If you are to ever use a spin trainer I hope you will be able to use it effectively to improve your game.

  2. You know what they say: practice makes perfect. Yes, it’s a pleasure to see such a spin trainer because I suspect that it would accelerate the progress of beginners and intermediates. Is this spin trainer only for adults? Because I could see children and teenagers benefits from such a tool. Also, I do believe that if you use it regularly, you’ll need another spin trainer that is more sophisticated. Fortunately, it’s cheap so no regret for such an investment!

    1. Hi, thank you for your comment. This spin trainer, I believe, has helped a lot of the beginner players I have coached and accelerated their understanding and learning. It can be used for anyone, not just adults, as you can adjust its height. I have used my spin trainer for over 2 years now and I see no signs of having to buy a new one so it is definitely a great investment.

  3. Hi, thank you for your insightful review of the Table Tennis Spin Trainer. Spin is such a crucial element in table tennis, and having the right tools to refine it can make a significant difference in one’s game. I’m interested to know if you have personal experience using this trainer and, if so, how did it impact your spin techniques and overall performance? Additionally, are there any specific drills or exercises you’d recommend alongside this trainer to maximize its benefits?

    1. I am glad you enjoyed this review. I have used this spin trainer while coaching beginners, the impact it has had has been substantial. It helps beginners to understand what motion they should be using when playing their shots. After a few minutes using the spin trainer, when they went back on the table to play, their technique had improved massively. I would recommend this product for any beginners looking to refine their techniques, especially on their forehand and backhand topspin.

Alongside this product, if you were aiming to improve your topspin techniques, I would encourage players to do drills involving a topspin shot straight after using it. This could be as simple as forehand topspin to a forehand block, or make it more advanced by adding in some footwork movement and incorporating their backhand shot too.
